About the event

Did you know that Kansas City has the only police department in the  entire country that is not under local control?

This means that Kansas City residents don't have a say in the police annual budget , about 270 million tax payer dollars.  Major decisions, such as appointments to the Board of Police Commissioners are made by the governor and those elected officials in Jefferson City instead of the people who pay for policing services.

We've invited John Chasnoff to come and give a presentation on how St. Louis fought for and won local control for their city.  We'll discuss what local control means in terms of police accountability and how Kansas City can get local control.
